Ex Machina is one of the best sci-fi films I’ve seen recently. The movie is the directorial debut of Alex Garland, writer of The Beach and 28 Days Later, and it’s main exploration is whether humans could ever truly fall in love with artificial intelligence.
Oscar Isaac, who we’ll see again later this year in the forthcoming Star Wars, plays a brilliant tech CEO who spends most of his time looking fine in a private mountain estate. He invites one of his employees, played by Domhnall Gleeson (who is also in the new Star Wars film), to be a part of manipulative experiment with a highly-advanced robot named Ava.

A tech genius who has secretly built human-like AI using the data people share with his Internet company every day, Oscar Isaac’s character is a hyper-fictional version of Sergey Brin or Mark Zuckerbeg, but like ten thousand times sexier. Although Sergey and other business billionaires are now sporting sexy beards, Oscar Isaac is still in a league of his own.
Ex Machina‘s tech CEO spends a lot of his time either in a tank top or shirtless, which is another valid — albeit less cerebral — reason to watch the movie.
Later in the film, Oscar Isaac’s character tries to show off his humanity by disco dancing with his servant. The scene is actually quite revelatory, so we won’t share too many details about it. Just admire the man getting his groove on in GIF-form below.
We’ll definitely be sending Oscar Isaac an invitation to our next dance party.
