Daft Punk Is Playing at My (Art) House

[dropcap background=”yes” color=”#333333″ size=”50px”]F[/dropcap]rench electronic duo Daft Punk left the pop music world infused with a unique flavor of retro-cool after last year’s massive hit, “Get Lucky.” So it’s no surprise that their signature visual style can be considered an art form in it of itself.
The Gauntlet Gallery in San Francisco’s Tenderloin district, known primarily for its embrace of the pop art mashup, is following up one of its most popular exhibits, last year’s Daft Punk-inspired ReDiscovery, with a sequel aptly titled, Daft Punk Deux.

The gallery will showcase over 40 art homages to the music duo in various mediums, from sculptures to paintings to digital works. As you can imagine, the Daft Punk exhibit does have a common motif: the famed helmets that have veiled the artists, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, with a sense of intrigue for all these years.

According to the exhibit’s press release: “The artwork created for this show draws inspiration from Daft Punk’s music videos, extraordinary visuals of their live performances, and their robot personas.”

Participating artists: Adam Juresko, Adam Rabalais, Andre DeFreitas, Andrew Turner, Arabella Proffer, Augie Pagan, Boneface, Caia Koopman, Cam Floyd, Chase Tafoya, Chris Koehler, Craig Drake, Cuyler Smith, Dan Almasy, David Grizzle, David Natale, David Blake, Epyon5, Eric Petersen, Fab Ciraolo, Florian Meacci, Jenny Liz Rome, Jeremy Enecio, John Larriva, Juan De Dios Garza Vela, Kellen Breen, Marie Bergeron, Mario Wagner, Mike Bell, Paul Ainsworth, Rebecca Adams, Rocco Malatesta, Roland Tamayo, Ryan Sanchez, Scott Scheildy, Serge Gay, Tomi Monstre, Tramaine Dion, Wednesday Kirwin and William Arvin.

The opening of Daft Punk Deux takes place tonight at 7pm and the exhibit will run until June 21. Below are selected works courtesy of the artists.
