When it comes to high production value on television, Game of Thrones is truly unrivaled. No wonder HBO is trying to make residual profit from the elaborate sets and costumes. The Game of Thrones touring exhibit allows both hardcore fans and curious bystanders to experience the series up close and personal and without getting blood stains on our clothes.
HBO invited me to their press preview of the exhibit at the Austin Music Hall, in conjunction with South By Southwest last Friday. A few of the cast members showed up, one of them DJ’d for a bit, Common performed and a good time was had by all.
To be real, I’ve never really seen an entire episode of Game of Thrones. I mostly half-watch while Denys is anxiously clutching to the blankets next to me on those given Sundays. And I spend the next hour asking him to explain every single scene. So even though I don’t watch Game of Thrones, I do get an instant episode play-by-play from my boyfriend.
Yet I didn’t feel guilty hanging out at the press event and drinking free booze. Part of the success of the exhibit is whether it has the ability to convert bystanders like myself.
Game of Thrones cast. Or as I described to Denys in a text, “a tall blonde chick, hella short brunette girl and a fat ass dude.”
“Fat ass dude is DJ’ing now…”
Random cute guy takes the throne.
Let’s both point at the dragon for this promo video.
