As part of her SecretProjectRevolution project, Madonna sat down with Vice to talk about the fight for liberation and creative freedom. During the 40-min interview, the pop star revealed her three female role models who inspired her becoming more than an artist, but a freedom fighter.
Madonna says that Frida Kahlo was a “revolutionary” for being a leading female artist while married to a misogynist, fighting against all odds. Martha Graham liberated the female body out of point shoes and corsets. Lastly, Anne Sexton’s bold language and imagery was also a great influence on Madonna’s life.
Watch her speak about these women in the video interview above starting at the 4:55-min mark.
