Same-Sex Family Photographs on Display in the Mexico City Metro

The Mexico City metro stations also serve as a makeshift museum with rotating public art to inspire citizens on their daily hectic commute. In 2008, one of the stations featured photographs of same-sex couples taken in their respective homes by photographer Oscar Sanchez. The exhibit, titled “Familias Mexicanas,” depicted the daily lives and intimate spaces of lesbian mothers, gay fathers and the lovers above.

According to blogger Daniel Hernandez: The couple first met when Ruben was 11 and Alfonso was 18. Seven years later they ran into each other on the train, and immediately became a couple. They’re in an open relationship, hence the blurred image in the middle.

While checking out the exhibit, Hernandez caught a gay couple embracing in the metro station.
