“The climate crisis is not a niche topic anymore,” says activist @xiyebeara (Xiye Bastida). “Climate justice needs to be in every space.” For Xiye, those spaces have included fashion shows, magazine covers and even the Met Gala.

“At the Met Gala, I thanked [designer] Gabriela Hearst for bringing climate activists into a space where we can defy the way that the fashion industry sees fashion into the future,” Xiye says.

Xiye’s activism began when she experienced first-hand the flooding of her native San Pedro Tultepec, Mexico, where she was raised as part of the Otomi-Toltec Indigenous community.

“The flood in my hometown brought an awakening to the fact that extreme weather events are already here… and my community is in the eye of the perfect storm,” says Xiye. “If Indigenous peoples lead the way with their ethics and morals about taking care for life and nature, there is a chance we can make it.”

Olivia Rodrigo (@oliviarodrigo) knows that getting vaccinated is good 4 u and everyone around u.

This week, the artist visited @potus at the @whitehouse to learn more about the importance of getting vaccinated from Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

“Whether you’re ready to go back to school, see a concert or visit loved ones, make sure you get vaccinated and do your part,” Olivia says. “YOU have the power to save lives.”

Zara Rutherford (@fly.zolo) made history when she became the youngest woman ever to fly solo around the world. ✈️💫🌎

“I always assumed flying around the world was too expensive, complicated and dangerous, so I never tried,” says Zara, who shared her travels through Iceland, the Caribbean, Colombia, Los Angeles, Alaska, South Korea, Taiwan, India, Egypt and then back to her hometown of Brussels, Belgium.

“I loved being able to show people what it was like flying over some of the most remote areas of the planet,” she says of her five month trip. “I would fly for hundreds of miles without seeing a single person.”

The experience taught Zara to try new things, even if they seem impossible, and she hopes her journey inspires other women to find their own path.

“Only 5 percent of commercial pilots are women,” Zara says. “Considering aviation is an incredible career with plenty of opportunities… I think it’s important there is plenty of representation for everyone.”
